French-Malian rapper Mokobé Traore was originally a member of the Hip-Hop  group 113, but really made his name with his 2007 solo outing, Mon Afrique. 113 became known thanks to their single Tip crazy, released in 1998. Mokobé eventually became less active than fellow members Rim’K and AP. He participates mainly in the artistic side (choice of music , themes) and the group’s image (video, interviews PR). Proud of his African roots but also attached to the suburbs, this duality has been the source of a new musical productions mixing hip-hop and African influences festive (participation of artists, musical arrangements atypical …). This mix has given birth to such hits as Gaou Oran and Move Move, due to the freshness and novelty they brought into the French musical landscape. Mokobé embodies the image of the new France, that of cultural and social diversity and strong positive values. On Mon Afrique, on which he put his Malian roots to the forefront, featured such famous African artists as Youssou N’Dour, Amadou & Mariam, Tiken Jah Fakoly, and Salif Keita, to name a few, as well as French hip-hop figures Booba and Diam’s. The video for C’est dans la Joie got heavy rotation on music TV channels, making it one of 2007′s top-ranking French hits.
