Ahmed Soultan (أحمد سلطان) is a Berber singer from Morocco whose work fuses traditional Arabic music, Hip-Hop, Raï and Soul. Born in Morocco in 1978, in a village in the region of Taroudant in the Souss, at a very young age he emigrated to France with his parents, but retained close links with his homeland where he is a fan of surfing. In 1997, asserting his artistic bent, Soultan crossed paths with two friends in in school, and went on to form the group Afrodiziac. In his debut album Tolerance, Soultan’s music takes his Moroccan and Arab influences and blends them with western pop music (three languages are treated in compliance with this album and live together harmoniously according to the artist : Arabic, English and french when he speaks of love, stereotypes, friendship, gender, faith in his dreams, and a statement on the Moroccan society). In 2005, Sultan Ahmed was invited to participate in an international film festival held in Dakar from and played the opening concert with Tiken Jah Fakoly . He recorded a duet with Senegalese singer King Bara. It also describes his music as universal in the sense that it is able to move from groovy to Arabic music urban, hip-hop, rap, rai and soul. In a broad sense we can say that it’s soul music afrobian related to the African-chanteur.Il received a very warm welcome and support media such as Ahmed Sultan quickly been offered so far supports unfamiliar with the movement known as “Nayda” new Moroccan scene. This young artist does not use this approach is to propose merging of genres, but he goes to the very foundations of the composition of rhythms, practicing synthesis between musical instruments. This allows him to write new music that guarantees a better harmony between the sounds of different instruments. His second album Code was released in 2008.
